Each morning and each afternoon, the naturalists on our ship ferried us on pangas to explore the islands. Being at the equator, it was too hot and bright to be outside at noon. We would eat lunch, have some free time, and enjoy a presentation. On this day, Richard Dawkins presented reactions he had received to his book, The God Delusion. The responses to criticisms of his book were to be included in the preface to new paperback edition (now released).
Unfortunately the video of this lecture has been taken down, however Richard also made many shorter videos while we explored the islands. Sections of the island would be “no-go zones” while Richard was being filmed. (As an independent film actress myself I was pretty familiar with the routine and helped keep fellow shipmates from walking into the shots.)
These videos are available on YouTube on the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science channel. (His foundation was folded into Center for Inquiry, the host of our trip.)
